Malaria Comic Book for NE India

"Malaria is predictable, it is preventable, it is treatable and it is curable," Davy Koech of the Kenya Medical Research Institute told CNN. "No one should die of malaria. It is only our lack of preparedness [that] is our sin.

Introducing Buzz and Tizzy the new characters in our Malaria comic book designed to help kids understand Malaria.

A TALE OF TWO MOSQUITOES

Setting:

Two mosquitoes, a male (Buzz) and a female (Tizzy) mosquito are perched in a bush in a swamp. Buzz is peeping through his binoculars!

 Buzz: Finally I have found a home for us to stay. How do you like it?

Tizzy: Oh, it is such a lovely place dear! I love it! We can now have our family and settle down once and for all.

 Buzz: I inspected the place around and have made sure you get your delicious blood-meal daily!

Tizzy: (Looking through the binoculars) Yes dear, I can see that locality with so many children. It is so easy for me to suck blood through their tender skin. Mmm…yummy! I am already hungry!

An Angel Named Reeta writes a comic book about Malaria

I am fortunate to be able to work with some of the brightest and most enthusiastic people ( most ladies) in India. They just make things happen. One of the things they  made happen is a Malaria comic book. I have been dreaming about this and they just made it happen. A lady I don’t even know volunteered and wrote the book and I got it yesterday. Reeta wrote the below email with the attached comic book script.

Here is  “A Tale of two Mosquitoes.”  I have tried my best to educate children through the story.  The parts of the story highlighted in yellow are to be depicted pictorially.

In fact I regret not being an artist, I have beautiful characters in my mind, but cannot draw it! But I hope our artist does a really good job. Can I get to see the characters he draws? I especially want the two mosquitoes to catch everyone’s fancy! He can probably draw the male mosquito with spectacles, the female with a flowery apron to differentiate between the two!(That’s how I visualize it!)
