Boarding
or residential schools have always been popular with India’s upper
middle class and elite. Every region in India has some famous
residential schools and some are historical favorites all over the
country. The recent boom influx of NRIs and foreigners, or expats in
India has resulted in emergence of several international schools with
global academic curricula.
Traditionally, boarding
schools in India were located in picturesque locations. Nainital
Dehradun, Mussorie (Uttaranchal), Sanawar (Himachal Pradesh),
Darjeeling (West Bengal) and Ooty (Tamil Nadu) are places well known
for their illustrious institutions. Schools here have a legacy dating
back to over a hundred years.
Residential schools in
India which offer the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma
programme include Bangalore International School, Canadian
International School, G D Goenka World School, Indus International
School, Kodaikanal International School, Mercedes Benz International,
Navrachana International, Pathways world, Sharad Pawar International
School, The International School of Bangalore, Mahindra United World
College, and Vishwashanti Gurukul.
Residential
schools which offer the IGCSE curriculum include Riverdale
International School, Pathways World School, Woodstock, G D Goenka,
TISB, Good Shepherd, Indus International, Parkwood International and

There
is no periodic ranking for schools in India by any market research or
media company. The most recent effort (August 2007) has been a survey
by the Indian Market Research Bureau (IMRB) for Education World. This
survey does not include the new international residential schools.
