Cost of Living in Bangalore

India-reports.com  has just launched a new product  to help people relocating to Bangalore.

Cost of Living in Bangalore product summary

Bangalore

’s phenomenal growth over the last few years has seen a sharp rise in the cost of living there. The rapid rise of the IT and ITES industries coupled with the burgeoning affluent middle class have contributed to a surge in costs and prices.

Bangalore

’s cosmopolitan nature coupled with the ever growing number of resident expats is reflected in the cost of living there. While

Bangalore

is an expensive place to live in, it is still less expensive than the country’s commercial capital, Mumbai.

While the costs of many items ranging from packaged foods to cars, books, electronic goods, gas etc. are almost the same all over India, other costs such as fresh fruits and vegetables, accommodation, entertainment, recreation schooling etc vary from city to city.

Bangalore

is in most ways a world class city with international standard amenities. Infrastructure in terms of power and traffic congestion is, however a problem. Our presentation on The Cost of Living in

Bangalore

highlights some of these issues.

Cost of living in Bangalore India

The Cost of Living in India- Ask a Question.

We are creating  Powerpoint presentation that communicates the cost of living in India compared to other countries. We think people want to know more about India and how much it costs to live and work here. Please ask us a question from a global perspective so the answer will be useful for anyone consider living in India. For example what is the rent for a 2 bedroom apartment in several cities in India compared to the same thing in Chicago. What is  the cost of food and the cost of eating at restaurants in India?  How much does it cost to have a maid in India? What are dental costs if I have a cavity in India? What is the cost of petrol?

India is a Safe Place: Safer than America?

India is one of the safest places on earth in some respects.

Well the roads may not be safe but violent crime is unusual. I would much prefer to be in Bangalore than Los Angeles or any American city.

It is my guess that CNN just made a false statement online. I think it will be corrected today. They  said

The Times Of India said 126 foreigners have died in Goa over the last two years and in January this year a 30-year-old British woman was raped

I am almost certain that this is not accurate so I hope they correct this soon.

Bangalore Expat Newsletter

Here is a clip from the September Issue of the Bangalore Breeze newsletter

Editorial

Chillibreeze is excited about this issue - having a baby in India! Here's a popular subject for young expat families moving to Bangalore. Our darling daughter was born in India in 1999. We followed the Indian custom and had my mother fly to India to help me with the birth and care of our first baby. I'd say that the experience was a bit of a cultural adjustment for my mom. Be sure to read her entire account of the dramatic event. One memory I have of my pregnancy is how I longed for someone .....

American ‘Medical Refugees’ in India

Medical tourism heralds the birth of a new breed of refugees- “Medical Refugees” as the New England Journal of Medicine(NEJM) calls them. The article in NEJM throws light on the plight of seriously ill Americans who seek treatment in low wage countries. “These patients are not ‘medical tourists’ seeking low-cost aesthetic enhancement but middle-income Americans who need life saving surgeries and want to evade impoverishment by succumbing to expensive healthcare options in America

Insightful Look at Bangalore Schools for Expat Kids

The below paragraph is taken from  a must read article for those wondering  about Bangalore schools. The article published on May 25, 2007 in the Bangalore Breeze Newsletter.

The other issue with local schools was second language. My daughter would be in middle school and it seemed unfair to stick a new language on her as well as the challenges of adjusting to a new environment. So that ruled out most of the excellent local schools in Bangalore which would have required a reasonable amount of proficiency with a local language. Another school, with a international approach to learning, Aditi Mallya we ruled out because of distance. With my husband working at ITPL in Whitefield, it seemed like the whole family would be commuting for hours if we lived in Northern Bangalore.

WonderLa - No swimming suit required

We went to Wonderla on a Tuesday in December to beat the weekend crowds and the lines were short. Our daughter had a blast. From her perspective it was similar to DisneyWorld.  I give the place a thumbs up for fun. The water is clean and the rides seem safe. I can't comment on the food because we only ate a  cup of sweet corn.  A few kilometer away is  Eagleton golf course and hotel if you want to spend the night. So endure the one hour drive thru traffic and enjoy the beautiful  Karnataka countryside and have some fun at Wonderla. And you don't even need a swimming suit everyone (except us)  went in the water fully dressed including  ladies and girls is school uniforms.

Bangalore Breeze Newsletter Preview

The next Bangalore Breeze Newsletter will go out this week.  Our editor tells some very interesting stories  of her experiences as a newcomer to Bangalore. Here is a  preveiw.

A couple of days ago, I thought the kids were looking a little out of sorts. They denied being homesick, but they had been troopers through the rigors of house hunting; I decided we needed a day off. Looked up movie listings and went to the theatre to watch Over the Hedge.

The theatre itself was swanky and plush, even though we had opted for the mid tier seats (about $3.00 each). The truly luxe seats are about $9.00 and you get to sit in individual leather recliners, with a menu you tick off your preferences on, and are served by waiters materializing with the food. First, we were delighted to see that along with popcorn and nachos they were serving samosas and vegetable puffs. I don’t know why we were so surprised and tickled, but somehow it seemed to make us realize we were really India.

As it was we gaped at the usher who came around asking us .....
