Malaria Awareness Campaign - Shillong India

Chillibreeze Initiative: Malaria Awareness Campaign - Shillong

For several years the Directors of Chillibreeze Solutions had nurtured the dream of giving something back to society. This dream became a reality when the company using its own in-house expertise in content and design produced its own comic titled, “A Tale of Two Magic Potions” with a theme on the dangers of Malaria and ways to prevent it. This comic is the first in a series of health comics intended to entertain, engage and educate school-going children, the pillars of tomorrow’s society.

Chillibreeeze kicked off its Malaria awareness campaign by conducting a quiz for Class Five in 3 schools in Shillong.

Measure Success: Malaria Comic Book

We are testing the Malaria awareness comic book in some schools in Shillong India.

The success should be measured by its entertainment value. The malaria teaching is by osmosis. The malaria content is there. It is good so if it gets read then it is working. The goal is to get kids to enjoy it.

This may seem like an odd way to measure success but let me explain.

If it is good then its life will go way beyond the classroom. The kids  will take it home and their brothers and sisters will read it- even parents. But the story has to be good and the characters and illustrations have to be appealing.

We want it to be as good as any commerical comic book. It should not be like an NGO project where we do what we think the kids like. The market needs to prove that it is good. If it is good people will buy it.

This is also where I see the social entrepreneurship element. If it is good then it has commercial value and the project becomes sustainable. I am sure there are other ways to accomplish this but this is all I can think of for now.

Business Writers Can Submit

Opportunites for Business Writing

Business writing is often a challenge for most writers. Delivering complex messages in simple terms (and weirdly enough sometimes, simple messages in complex terms!) can be hard to do. To be successful in business writing, you need analytical abilities, impeccable writing skills and an abundance of subject matter knowledge. If you fit the bill, we need you!

India Reports is offering Business writers an opportunity to write, market themselves and sell products via our website.

Chillibreeze presents the ‘Greenest Company Challenge’

Chillibreeze presents the ‘Greenest Company Challenge’ How green is your company? Would you like to join 'The Green Company Movement'? Ready for 'The Chillibreeze Challenge'? Ready for 'The Chillibreeze Challenge'? FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE PRLog (Press Release) – Sep 06, 2007 – Chillibreeze Solutions Pvt Ltd, (http://www.chillibreeze.com) a content and design service provider based in North East India, announces the Chillibreeze ‘Greenest company challenge’. Chillibreeze envisions being amongst the most environmentally friendly companies and challenges other companies to prove they use lesser carbon per employee. Chillibreeze hopes this challenge flags off the beginning of a ‘Green company movement’. The company looks forward to setting a ‘Be green’ example for the community and invites other companies to share their vision and encourage energy conservation by creating awareness. This is one of the many activities Chillibreeze has undertaken to drive social entrepreneurship through three core values - sustainability, innovation and communication. The company will soon be launching a social entrepreneurship website that showcases success stories in India. Speaking about the ‘Greenest company challenge’, Ralph Budelman, CEO of Chillibreeze says, “We understand that our challenge is open to debate. Chillibreeze welcomes views and opinions of other interested companies seeking to explore their contribution to the ‘Be green movement’. Social responsibility and social projects have occupied a top priority in our company’s agenda.” The ‘Greenest company challenge’ evolved based on a combination of several unusual factors that come together to make Chillibreeze a green company. Some of the green initiatives at the company include the following: · Most Chillibreeze employees and writers telecommute and work in the virtual space eliminating the need for fuel to commute to the workplace. · Almost all the work at Chillibreeze is done electronically thereby eliminating the use of paper. · While the writer network is part of the virtual office, the small team of non-virtual employees works from Shillong, Meghalaya in North East India, one of the most environmentally pristine places on earth. · The Chillibreeze office in Shillong does not have AC or hot water and uses low watt light bulbs to conserve energy. · The electricity used at the Shillong office comes from an environment friendly hydroelectric power plant. · Most of the employees do not own cars and almost all of them walk to and from the office. · The Shillong staff often uses banana leaves instead of plates for lunch. · Most of the office furniture is made using fast growing pinewood. · Chillibreeze has also been planting Cherry, Walnut, Chestnut, Maple, Peach and Magnolia trees along public roads in Shillong, on a regular basis to offset carbon use. Ralph adds, “Chillibreeze, in its own small way, is trying to add value to the globe by using limited carbon. We could build momentum in this effort by collaborating with government agencies and other non-profit organizations. We envisage an environmental role to implement plans, create consistent policies, perform regular audits and measure progress. “Our dream is to create a showplace campus that promotes social entrepreneurship, alternate green designs and other environment-friendly technologies.” How big is your company’s carbon footprint? Are you ready for the Chillibreeze challenge? North East India Travel Book

Travel Guide Book to North East India: Buy this eBook with key insights to North East Travel - $25

Netravelbook

India’s North East is a physically and historically isolated region of India. Its rich cultural heritage, topography and biodiversity make the region a must on the travel list of adventure, cultural and nature travelers.

“North East -India’s Paradox worth visiting” has been authored by James Perry an authority on travel in North East India, with research and editorial support from Chillibreeze Solutions Pvt. Ltd. The eBook not only provides valuable information about North East India but is also a complete travel guide to this enchanting region.

James Perry, is a Canadian national, but considers North East India his home. He was born at Mawlai, near Shillong and spent his early childhood here. He returned to India in 1996 and now lives here with his family. An avid adventure traveler, he runs a travel agency named Cultural Pursuits.
For decades, North East India has been physically and emotionally marginalized from the rest of India. The biodiversity of this region is known to many, but experienced by very few. This eBook provides an insight into the experiences this region offers and highlights the ethnic and cultural aspects of its major tribes. The eBook offers valuable information about the different states in the region, their cuisine, and places to stay and provides useful travel advice (permits, travel gear and what to expect!) for the westernized traveler. It also elaborates on the various tailor-made cultural, wildlife and adventure tours offered by agencies like Cultural Pursuits and detailed listings of what to do, see, experience, eat, buy and more!

What makes this eBook different from a regular travel guide are the personal insights, suggestions and experiences of the author who has been promoting environmentally sensitive and culturally rich tours throughout the North East for quite a few years now.

The North East has a lot to offer culture travelers, wildlife enthusiasts, nature lovers and of course, photojournalists. Be warned - this eBook may well make you want to visit the North East right away. So, get ready to pack your bags!

All India Medical Writers Association AIMWA

The All India Medical Writers Association (AIMWA), a not-for-profit, soon to be registered association of medical writers, conducted its first workshop on 20th of June, 2008, at the Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology (KMIO), Bangalore.

The event was organized in collaboration with the World Health Organisation (WHO), the Indian Cooperative Oncology Network (ICON), and the National Institute of Medical Statistics (NIMS), Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). The local organizers for the event were medical oncologists Dr K. Govind Babu representing KMIO and Prof. Dr Purvish M Parikh representing both ICON and AIMWA. AIMWA is indebted to the organizers for their valuable and enthusiastic efforts especially to Prof Parikh for his contribution in organizing the logistics and program handouts.

ICMR conducted training on the Clinical Trials Registry-India (CTRI) and AIMWA conducted training on Medical Writing. Overall, there were about 50 attendees, most of these at the invitation of ICMR. However, the first delegates to register had come because of the medical writing workshop announcement on the AIMWA website (www.freewebs.com/aimwa).

Dr Roopa Basrur, Senior Manager, Clinical Writing and Document Quality, Wyeth Pharmaceuticals India Ltd, gave a brief introduction to AIMWA and spoke on Medical Writing as a career option. NIMS/ICMR, represented by Dr Abha Rani Aggarwal and Prof Arvind Pandey, among others, conducted training on CTRI.

Dr Hetal Shah, Medical Writing and Clinical Research Consultant, Ahmedabad conducted a workshop on poster presentation. A workshop on abstract writing was conducted by Dr Sujata Shah, Head - Medical Publications, Group sanofi-aventis, India. Each of these was a 2-hour session and was attended by 12-15 participants. About 50% of the participants were medical writers and the others were oncologists and clinical research professionals.

At both the workshops, there was good interaction and the response from the participants during the assignments was enthusiastic. Feedback received indicated that most participants were moderately to highly satisfied with the workshops and would attend and recommend such workshops in future.

Solar Heat in Our Office

Chillibreeze Designs Solar Heater. The solar heater shown on the Chillibreeze website will installed on our building in November 2008 just in time for the cold Shillong weather. Last winter the Chillibreeze staff complained of being constantly cold. Next winter will be different.

The sun will go through the glass and heat the black river stones. These stones will retain some heat and act like a heat flywheel so that some heat flows into the office even if a cloud blocks the sun.

The glass is sloping up so that the rising heat flows into the office. The glass creates the greenhouse effect capturing the suns heat below the glass.

The 3D drawing was made by our SketchUp team in Shillong and can be seen on Google 3D warehouse.

Chillibreeze and Symantec in the News

April 22, 2008 Shillong India

The Shillong Times newspaper  reported today that Symantec will locate offices in Shillong in the coming weeks. The front page articles goes on to say how  IT companies will create a climate of confidence in the region. It mentions how good global companies can attract others to the region and  how Chillibreeze is already operating from the new IT park in Shillong Meghalaya.

Chillibreeze is the first Global IT company successfully working and  headquartered in North East India. It is rooted  in Shillong and grew from a start of just a few people.  It is unique in its approach of training and raising up local management.

Attracting  companies and investment to the region has been difficult because of major problems including unrest, strikes, terrorism and poor infrastructure. No company wanted to be the first into such and unknown environment.  After  years of ongoing attempts to promotethe region by  state governments there we no takers. Companies could not justify  the risk.

These first companies (Symantec and Chillibreeze)  are pioneering and bringing prosperity  to a difficult an historically  business unfriendly region. Once it is proven that a company can succeed others may  follow.

Quest to Sell Ebooks

If you are interested in following along on my Quest to Sell 1000 eBook then please go to Chillifreeze.com

Here is a sample post from today.

Not to many companies reveal their plans like this but our goal with this blog is to document and share our success and failures so here goes. These are the first 5 of 25 steps of PHASE I

Sell-Sell-Sell The goals is to sell 3 eBooks by April  1st. If we sell 3 we will have proven the concept.  I uploaded our South India Cooking/Culture eBook to Lulu and I want to see what it takes to sell it. It will not sell unless we learn how to promote it.  Here are some things we will do this week.  Most of these things are simple and will not take much time. Most of PHASE I should be complete by  March 16th. We can create the PHASE II Plan on March 16th.

PHASE I

1) I Created  a StoreFront but it needs some work to make it  nicer. It is drag and drop but some  HTML  can be added. No need to spend too much time on this but it should be a little  nicer.  We need to  a) create a link on this storefront   going to CB. b) Insert google analytics  code so we can track visitors.

2) Create a button on cb.com and India-reports that says Buy this Ebook on Lulu. I wonder if some people will feel more comfortable buying it  from  lulu and thus we get more sales. Joanna is the one to do this so follow up with  her. Tell her what you want.

3) Write a promo page on Cb.com with a  review & book cover etc. with a link to Lulu.

4) Promote the Storefront so google finds it. Make sure the title is good. I wonder if we can even create a two or three page store front so that we can use different titles etc.

5) Make a nice book cover. Then this cover needs to be displayed on our Lulu Storefront. And we can put this cover on cb.com and IR.com.

To be continued.....

Economic Predictions

Sunday Surfing

I learned about low cost housing around the world  and the fall of the US economy. Both topics interest me. There are some very creative people and organizations coming up with new ideas to make houses more affordable for the poor. A Columbian invented a device to ram earth into bricks and the idea has spread around the world. Also spreading is the fear of a recession in the USA.

I am sure the US is printing money money like crazy  trying to  stall a  natural down cycle but it is inevitable. So get ready for the double wammy. Usually economic predictions are mostly wrong but this time all the expert who are predicting recession plus inflation are right.

If you are a writer you can hunker down with a good internet connection and build a low cost house out of clay and survive. Chillifreeze will soon be launching WriteMatch to match freelancers with projects.

Also on CF is my new blog Quest to Sell 1000 eBooks. Don't miss it if you want to learn how to make money online.

1000 eBooks to Sell

While I am waiting for my blog to be set up on chillifreeze.com  I will post here  here instead. This is a continuation of my last post about The Quest to Sell 1000 eBooks.

Today is Thursday and on Monday someone will simultaneously start some research on this topic. She will look at what we have done in the past to sell our ebooks and discover what we have done right and wrong.

I will work in some new areas  like learning the publishing platforms  Lulu and Kindle. Already I uploaded our South Indian Cooking/Cultural Guidebook but don't think much will happen without a lot of promotion.

If you want to be in this epublishing journey feel free to complete the writers form on chillibreeze.com. We are looking for someone  entrepreneurial with a global perspective to give our epublishing website  a boost. The perfect person would know how to build traffic to a website, publish, write, market, create and promote.

Since lots of people contact us daily so please indicate in the form that you are responding to this blog.

Quest to Sell Ebooks

Right now I am waiting for permission from Chillifreeze.com to start a new blog - A Quest to Sell 1000 Ebooks.

I need to discover how to market and sell ebooks.  My goal is to sell 1000 copies of an ebook  before July 1st 2008.

I am not sure where this journey will take me but you are welcome to come along for the ride and learn or you can help by giving me you ideas or opinions.

Are you ready for the tangy, mouth-watering taste of Chillisauce? Here is another issue of our Chillibreeze newsletter, devoted to Indian freelance writing pursuits.

When you registered at Chillibreeze.com, you were expecting to benefit from your relationship with us. Many of you have started working with us. Some of you are eager to work with us and haven’t found the right niche. Some of you wish you could work with us, but are swamped with other assignments. Others have not yet joined our preferred writers’ network by writing a sample article for Chillibreeze.

We want you to benefit, irrespective of the type of association you have with us.

To prove it to you, this issue includes a special article for you- ‘How to bid and bag the project you want!’ This article is part of our “Chillimentor series” sent out to an exclusive group of writers. But we decided to make an exception and share this article, with the rest of our network.
